The next few months are going to be busy for kickboxing and although I’ve taken a dip in my training over the past few weeks I’ve now committed to a number of competitions so I’ll be increasing my training load to prepare as well as I can for these. First up is the Hungarian World Cup which is taking place in Budapest from 18-21 May. This event is part of the WAKO World Series and even though I have not entered the last two World Series Events I’m looking forward to bringing my ranking back up to the top of the World Series in my weight category. This will be my second year taking part in this competition and last year although I had some good performances I had to settle for Bronze in both -55kg and the Grand Champion (which is an Open Weight category). In two weeks time I’ll be aiming to win gold at this along with some of the top fighters from Tallaght Martial Arts who will be travelling over with me.
A few weeks later I’ll be back competing in the National Championships in Dublin for the second day of this event. This is a must win competition for me as I will be looking to retain my National Title and of course a place on the Irish Team for the WAKO World Championships taking place later in the year. Next up I’ll be flying out to Italy to take part in another World Cup which makes up another event in the WAKO World Series. I haven’t been to this competition in a few years so I’m really looking forward to taking on some of the top fighters here. In Italy it can be extremely difficult to get decisions over home fighters and so I’ll need to be at my best to challenge for this title!
After I get back home I’ll be competing in another international event within 5 days of this World Cup – The White Tiger Challenge. This is taking place in Ireland in County Mayo and it will be my first time competing in this event. For the past few years injury has ruled me out of this so it will be great to get to compete here and get some challenging bouts at home.
That will take me up to the end of June so it looks like it will be a busy couple of months preparing for and competing in these competitions all so close together. I’ll keep you all updated on how they go…..
