TEDx Talk at Droichead Arts Centre

In the past year or so I’ve been speaking out about my battle with Crohns Disease and have wanted to raise awareness of this hidden disease. Around 20,000 people in Ireland suffer with either Crohns Disease or Colitis, collectively known as IBD. IBD stands for Inflammatory Bowel Disease and is not the same as IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) as many people say to me!!! In 2014 I was diagnosed with this disease and it has completely changed my life and how I get through every day.

I’ve always wanted to do a TED Talk and so a couple of months ago an opportunity arose for me to check another goal off my list when I saw a call for speakers at the TEDx Event in Drogheda. The theme was related to identity or private lives so I thought this might fit in well with my journey with a hidden illness. After a very competitive application process I was thrilled to have been selected as one of eight speakers for the event and so here I was faced with speaking publicly (and on camera!!!) about a very personal journey with Crohns Disease.

The other speakers were amazing and to be just part of this event was a dream come true. Absolutely riddled with nerves on the day I managed to get up, deliver my talk and even have a lot of fun throughout the whole experience. Today the videos have been released to the public so here I am sharing it with you all!!!
